Being spiritually blind means lacking insight. When we are spiritually blind, we cannot see clearly. When we don’t see clearly, we lack understanding and the things that are of God are concealed. We tend to pretend that we don’t see sin, iniquity, and people going in error.
Seeing Clearly
When we live by what we see naturally, we are blind. We must live by faith and not by sight. We should have spiritual sight, discernment, or discerning of spirits is having spiritual sight. In John 10:1-3, we see that when we are blind, we try to go up to the Father another way, and the only way to the Father is through His Son, Jesus Christ. A blind person puts in so much effort in their own strength and tries to go up to the Father another way; he is a thief and a robber.
There are two garments we are all born with (sin and iniquity), but through deliverance, we take/put these off. Being blind is a garment, and the garment of blindness is a state of mind. We see this in John 9:1-21. The man who was born blind knew what Christ did and who He was.
There are people who have been saved and sitting in churches for years, and they don’t know who Christ is. Spiritual blindness is defeating a lot of God’s people. When we deal with what’s going on in our lives, then we can see spiritually.
A lot of people cannot enter into the kingdom of God because they cannot see it. If you have been born again, you do not do what you used to do because you do not know those things of former conduct. Being a born again believer means we have to be taught.
Being spiritually blind is what kept Nicodemus out of the Kingdom of God. Lastly, we see in Mark 10:46-52 that Bartimaeus had insight, he knew who Jesus was, and he knew how to receive mercy from Jesus, Son of David. Mercy will strip the garment of blindness off of us.
Religious leaders and those that teach man’s doctrine are blind, and this is the blind leading the blind. So, how do we know who is one that is no longer spiritually blind and has thrown aside the garment of blindness? We know because they follow Jesus Christ no matter what, just like Bartimaeus.
