Bitterness Attacks Prophets!

by Overseer Prophet Daniel Powell Sr.

The spirit of bitterness attacked the Prophet, Elisha. He wasn't going to release a word to the king of Judah and the king of Israel because they sought counsel from the false prophets of Baal, and that made Elisha bitter. Elisha was so bitter he said he didn't even want to look at them.

He was so bitter he told the musician to play music so he could get the spirit of bitterness off of him. So, once the music played, he was delivered from that spirit.

He had to be delivered from bitterness not only so he could prophesy to the kings but also to his servant's wife.

We can't prophesy without the hand of God. The hand of God gives blessings, gives power, protects us, causes us to be stable, and causes us to be generous.

We have to get the spirit of bitterness out of us, or we will only receive a portion of the blessing and not the fullness of the blessing.

Always gain understanding about your prophecies, or you will get the wrong revelation of what God is saying to you. Because sometimes it's not how you perceive it. A lot of times, when God speaks, it's spiritual and not natural.

The bible says in all your getting get understanding!

Isaiah 59:1, we see that the Lord's hand is not short or shortened that it cannot save us, nor is His ear heavy that He cannot hear.

Bitterness will separate us from God, and we cannot be separated from Him for long. This is how we miss the complete blessing God has for us.

In the bible, we see that the enemy attacked certain part of Jesus' body because those parts represented something (hands-to war/the anointing, feet-the share the gospel, head-Christ is the head of the body of the church, etc.)

When God sends a prophet, that means you have to be unique, and the children of Israel were unique.

The children of Israel caused Ezekiel to be bitter because of how they received him (how they looked at him and talked about him). So because the spirit of bitterness came in, Ezekiel came from under the hand of God.

Ezekiel 1:1-16, prophets must have the heavens open to see visions of God. In these verses, Ezekiel was speaking of his visions and how he saw angelic beings.

Ezekiel 2:1-9, we see that you can be taken up into the spiritual realm. The Holy Spirit first came upon Ezekiel, but we see the Holy Spirit enter him in this chapter. He did not ask for Him; the Holy Spirit knows we cannot fulfill God's will without Him.  We can never stand on our feet without the Holy Spirit. The Spirit of the Lord gives us stability. This stability is in regards to speaking the truth and standing on the word of God.

The Holy Spirit knows what God desires for us to do. We have to have the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, especially prophets.  When we think our enemies are coming against us or attacking us and not the Lord, we can allow bitterness to overtake us. Ezekiel didn't understand that the people were attacking and rebelling against God and not him even though God spoke and told Ezekiel this. Ezekiel had a problem with his flesh. The children of Israel rejected God's sovereignty. They were rebellious and wanted kings instead of prophets to deal with. Although the children of Israel were a rebellious house, the Lord God told Ezekiel, yet they will know that a prophet has been among them.  Lord God means Adonai, which also means the Lord's sovereignty.  Ezekiel means God's strengthens. The instructions God gave Ezekiel concerning the children of Israel were do not be afraid of them nor be afraid of their words; do not be dismayed by their looks (do not be horrified, puzzled, or shocked by their looks), and speak My words to them.  Ezekiel 3:1-3, "Moreover He said to me, "Son of man, eat what you find; eat this scroll, and go, speak to the house of Israel." 2 So I opened my mouth, and He caused me to eat that scroll. And He said to me, "Son of man, feed your belly, and fill your stomach with this scroll that I give you." So I ate, and it was in my mouth like honey in sweetness." God told Ezekiel to eat this scroll (the word of God). To eat means to be an example by being receptive and listening to God's message. Verse 7, he told Ezekiel they did not listen to me, so they will not listen to you. In verse 10, God said to receive my word: 1. Receive it into your heart all My words that I speak to you  2. Hear with your ears But most believers have it backwards. We want to hear it with our ears first then receive it into our hearts. Verse 12, this is when God released a weight of glory upon Ezekiel and his ministry and angelic host for Ezekiel's protection. Verse14, Ezekiel went in bitterness and in the heat of his spirit after all God showed him and spoke to him about. When we can't handle what God has given us, bitterness can come in. The office of the Prophet comes with sweet and distastefulness; there are some things you will go through, but you got to be able to handle all of it. This is why it is imperative to be sure you know who you are, where God placed you, and who you are connected to. The hand of the Lord delivered Ezekiel after a seven day shut in from bitterness. Ezekiel was made into a watchman for the house of Israel, he went up another level spiritually, and his soul got delivered because he warned the wicked and the righteous that they should not sin so they can live.  Scripture Readings Isaiah 59:1 Ezekiel 1:1-16 Ezekiel 2:1-9 Ezekiel 3:1-21

Giving is an expression of our love and trust in God. It is not a requirement, it is just an opportunity to honor Him. Aside from the supernatural results we will see in our own lives, we will also see lives changed around the world as we minister the Gospel. Your seeds help us feed the hungry and give back. Be confident that when you sow a seed into this ministry, it is sown in good ground and produces much fruit. Thank you for your support and partnership with Faith & Works Outreach Ministries.
