by Overseer Prophet Daniel Powell Sr.
Life is in the hand of God.
In this blog, we dive into 2 Kings 4:8 - Elisha Raises the Shunammite's Son. The Shunammite woman did something for the man of God (Elisha). Unlike the widow she did not do anything for the man of God, and she knew him. When you are bitter, you won't do anything.
The hand of God was upon Elisha and the Shunammite Woman's life. Elisha was led by God to see the Shunammite woman and to eat some food where she was. Prophets don't just go anywhere; they are guided by God's hand.
Bitter to Better
God guided Elisha to where he was needed, which was to the widow's house and to the Shunammite woman's place.
The hand of God was also upon the Shunammite woman's life also, because she had to be in place. She made sure that he ate some food. When the hand of God is upon your life, it will cause you to be holy; the Shunammite woman told her husband that Elisha was a holy man of God.
Any time God is about to do a miracle, there's always a problem. The Shunammite woman's husband had a problem with Elisha coming to eat and sit with her. Her husband did not know Elisha. The upper room she wanted to build for Elisha was not for Elisha. She was building for a miracle to take place. Her husband was stopping the miracle from taking place.
Never let anyone stop you from building your upper room for where God wants to perform a miracle for you. For life itself is in the hand of God, and our lives must be in the hand of God also. The woman had no idea why she was building the upper room for the prophet Elisha. The Lord told her exactly how to build the upper room to prepare for her miracle.
This is why the prophet Elisha had to be delivered from the spirit of bitterness. He was generous, he asked the Shunammite woman, "what can I do for you?"
She did not have a son, and her husband was old, so this caused the Shunammite woman to be bitter. When we don't birth spiritually (our ministry or our calling) and naturally (having children), it can cause us to become bitter.
In verse 16, Elisha said, "About this time next year you shall embrace a son." And she said, "No, my lord. Man of God, do not lie to your maidservant!"
A lot of other people had told the woman that she would give birth to a son, but she did not believe it, and she was bitter. She did not receive the prophecy, but life itself is in the hand of God. The enemy had her mind on what she did not have, but it should have been on what she built; a room for the prophet and her miracle to take place.
In verse 15, when God speaks, people don't listen carefully. The prophet said she would embrace her son, not just bear a son, which means he would live. She did not listen to her prophecy from God, and her husband did not know about the prophecy,
The son that Elisha prophesied about died and the woman laid him on the bed of the man of God, which was where her miracle was. Elisha was not around.
When the woman built that room, she did not know it was for her son, but she laid the boy on Elisha's bed. She was trying to prove that Elisha was a false prophet and lied to her about her son. But her son's life was in God's hand.
In verse 22-23, her husband kept wondering why she kept seeing about Prophet Elisha. She did not tell her husband that their son was dead. Sometimes we can't share certain things with our spouse because their faith is not there yet.
In verses 27-78, we see the woman was in deep distress. She went from being bitter to better and then better to bitter.
In verse 32-37, Prophet Elisha did exactly what the Lord told him to do, and the miracle took place in the room she built.
Whenever the hand of God is upon our life, our ending will be better than the beginning.
When you're bitter, you cannot be better until you desperately need a change.
